Professional biography

Som Gurung, Assistant Professor, started his career as a teacher in November 1991. His educational qualification and training include MSc in Physics from Jawaharlal Nehru University in India, BSc from Sherubtse College in Bhutan, Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from Samtse College of Education in Bhutan, Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching Information Systems (PGCertTIS) from Sherubtse College in Bhutan,. Prior to joining the Royal University of Bhutan he taught physics and mathematics to pre-university students. He went on to become the Assistant Principal in 2000 and promoted to Vice Principal in 2002.

 

In March 2006 he was transferred to Paro College of Education, Royal University of Bhutan. Between 2006 to 2009, he was Lecturer and the Head of Department of Science. He spear headed the establishment of the Rinpung Science Campus and launched the Bachelor of Education in sciences in 2008. He was Coordinator of Academic Programme Unit, Teaching Practicum Coordinator and Officiating Dean of Academic Affairs for the period 2009 to 2012. In Between 2012 to 2015 he was Lecturer and Dean of Academic Affairs at Paro College of Education. He was instrumental in the development of the college strategic plan 2013-2020, development & launching of Master of Education in Dzongkha, Diploma in Physical Education & Sports Coaching and Diploma in ECCD.  He stablished linkages and offered consultancy services. He was awarded the prestigious meritorious promotion to the next higher level as Specialist in January 2015.  In October 2018 he was appointed as the Programme Leader for Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Management. He has developed and examined university programmes, taught undergraduate, postgraduate students, mentored and trained school teachers, and supervised Masters theses.

Dr. Kezang Sherab

Professional biography

Kezang Sherab is the Dean of Research and Industrial Linkages/Assistant Professor at the Paro College of Education, Royal University of Bhutan. He has a PhD (Cum Laude) in Education from the University of New England in Australia and M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction from St. Francis Xavier University in Canada. He teaches Health and Physical Education and Research Methodology courses both at the undergraduate and graduate levels and provides professional development programmes for school teachers, university academics, and also for youth voluntary groups. Kezang has published on a variety of educational topics, reviewed journal manuscripts, examined PhD theses and has led several consultancies for the Ministry of Education (MoE), UNICEF, National Council, UNFPA, and the Royal Education Council. His research interests are in educational change, student engagement, efficacy beliefs, GNH Education, non-cognitive skills and issues concerning the youth.

He served as the Dean of Research and Industrial Linkages at the Centre for Educational Research and Development from 2009-2010 and 2014-2017. He was the Editor-in-Chief for the RABSEL, the CERD Educational Journal, and the Founder of Journal of Educational Action Research (JEAR). He was successful in winning several International and nationally funded projects and bids that helped establish collaborations and exchange programmes with external universities. Kezang was also successful in bidding and convening International (International Society for Teacher Education Seminars – 32nd in 2012 & 40th in 2020), and 7th International Association of Art in Early Childhood Conference (in 2017) and national seminars (Education through sports and physical education 2005). He is both the past and current member of numerous professional committees- the Review Panel Member for Bhutan Education Blueprint (2014-2024), Tertiary Education Roadmap for Bhutan (2015-2025), and University Organisational Development Exercise team, amongst many other achievements. He also consistently contributes to the development of university sports in his capacity as the General Secretary of the Bhutan University Sports Federation.

 Paro College of Education offers opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate (Masters, PhD) students from external universities and research institutions to work on research projects that are related to the academic programme in which they are enrolled in their parent institutions. The duration of the visiting research student programme will vary from one semester to one year.

The College has a Guesthouse with kitchen facilities. Located on the campus it is within walking distance from the main academic blocks, library, indoor sport facilities, and the cafeteria. Guests can buy groceries from shops within walking distance from the college main campus. Guesthouse inquiries can made be email (see contact below). If available upon inquiry, reservation can be done online by completing the Guesthouse Reservation Form and emailing it to the staff in charge of reservations room allocation. Computer Labs for Trainee Teachers

 

PCE has three  fully equipped computer labs with about 95 PCs with Internet speed of 34 mbps. WiFi  connection is also available throughout the campus and hostel area. College's main aim is that every trainee becomes computer literate and can access information through the Internet.

The IT Labs are open from 8 am - 8 pm  all the days including government holidays.

 

Classrooms

All classrooms are equipped with LCD projectors for effective teaching and learning.

 

Maintenance & Support

ICT Unit offers advices and supports concerning questions and problems related to ICT. Staff and trainee can get maintenance services for their personal computer and laptop from ICT Unit.
