Tshering Wangmo

Professional biography

 

Tshering Wangmo, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in Paro College of Education, Royal University of Bhutan. She began her carrier as a teacher educator in February, 1983 at the Pre-Primary Teacher Training Centre in Paro under the Ministry of Education. Since then she has been working in the same organization as it evolved from a Teacher Training College and Demonstration School (TTC & DS) to TTC and to National Institute of Education (NIE) and now to Paro College of Education, Royal University of Bhutan.

 

During her whole tenure as a teacher educator, she has written and vetted courses, taught undergraduate and postgraduate students, supervised Masters theses, trained school and university teachers and talked to many parents. She has facilitated several workshops and trainings for teachers in early year education specially in the areas of teaching skills, early childhood education, research and contemporary theories and practices. She headed the Department of English in the college and also lead and revamped programmes and modules in programmes such as the Bachelor of Education (Primary) and Diploma in Early Child Care and Development.

 

She is currently the Director of Rinpung ECCD Centre. She is very passionate in the education of young children and has spent 13 years of her life studying in this area. She is a part of the leading team for ECCD in the Paro College of Education. Her teachings emphasize rigor, relevance, recency, and real-world competencies, and the pertinence of Bhutanese home funds of knowledge through teacher education. She was a part of the committee who set up the first draft ECCD policy for Bhutan in 2008 and continues to be an active participant in any programmes concerning early year education. She is a member of the Higher Degree Research Committee of the RUB.
