PCE signs MoU with Sangak Choekhor Shedra

On 16th March 2021 Paro College of Education signed a memorandum of understanding with Sangchen Choskhor Shedra. Khenpo Norbu Gyeltshen, Principal of the Shedra and Dr Dorji Thinley, PCE President, presided over the signing ceremony. In his welcome  address, PCE President said that the coming together of two important institutions in the country – one dedicated to teacher education and the other to the study and practice of Buddha dharma – was symbolic indeed and reflected the long-felt need for higher education institutions to collaborate and engage in mutual learning and exchange. He said that following the signing of the MoU, PCE would make every effort to support Sangchen Choskhor Shedra in a number of areas including setting up an English Teaching programme for the Shedra monks, teaching methodology, basic research skills, ICT education, library support, and physical education, among others. Sangchen Choskhor principal Khenpo Norbu said that it is important and high time today for Shedras  to look at monastic education against the backdrop of current and emerging challenges and opportunities. He said that teaching English to monks is almost indispensable in today’s world and that signing this MoU was most timely. Khenpo also said that the Shedra will provided full support to the College in relation to dharma discourses, meditation practices, guest lectures, performance of rituals, and any other form of spiritual support the College requests.  Both the Khenpo and PCE President agreed that this collaboration and the potential outcomes will certainly encourage other Shedras and higher education institutions in RUB to explore partnership areas now and in the future.
