Diploma in Physical Education and Sports Coaching (2 years-Full Time)

General Aims

The programme is designed to provide opportunities to the students who have aptitude for sports and coaching; to stimulate creativity and innovation in the field of contemporary physical education and sports coaching and also to promote health and healthy living styles in realizing the theme of Gross National Happiness through Gross National Healthiness. The programme will not only serve as a broad platform for developing and promoting elite athletes at the national level but also inculcate sportsmanship and national values.

 

Objectives

The proposed programme in DPESC is designed to address the theoretical and practical aspects of Physical Education and Sports Coaching as per the latest trends and practices. The specific objectives of the programme are:

• to develop Physical Education (PE) teachers and coaches who are proficient in teaching and coaching through teaching practice and sport specializations;
• to inculcate in students the values, ethos and professionalism expected of Bhutanese educators and sport coaches.

2.The Physical Proficiency Test (PPT)

The Physical Proficiency Test (PPT) is a unique test meant for aspiring applicants. Interested shortlisted applicants must appear for the PPT. Before the commencement of the PPT, the applicants must complete and submit a declaration form (Annexure I: DPESC Declaration Form)along with a medical fitness certificate issued by a competent medical authority. After the registration for the test the applicant must fill in and submit the declaration form available in the registration counter. There are six stations set-up for the PPT. The stations are in the following sequence.

Diploma in Early Childhood Care Development (Part Time)

General Aims

The Diploma in ECCD aims to address the need to  prepare knowledgeable, skilled and competent ECCD facilitators capable of providing care, early stimulation and learning opportunities in different ECCD programme and services in the country. Specifically, the programme will address the need for qualified and professionally trained facilitators in the ECCD sector.

 

 

Objectives 

 

The specific objectives of this programme are to prepare ECCD facilitators who will be able to:

 

• demonstrate a sound understanding of child development while working with young children;
• make an informed decision of their daily practices using knowledge of contemporary early  childhood theories;
• organize developmentally and culturally relevant learning environments in the ECCD centre;
• organize relevant learning activities for children informed by knowledge of child development, strengths and interests of the , and the social cultural context they live in;
• observe and document children’s learning regularly and make informed curriculum decisions;

• establish mutually beneficial relationship with families and communities;
• exhibit knowledge of health care, safety principles, nutritional and physical needs of young children;

• plan appropriate play activities for children;
• use different teaching methods and strategies to support children achieve learning goals in Bhutan
• Early Learning and Development Standards;
• possess knowledge about different kinds of disabilities and liaise with relevant agencies to support children with disabilities;
• apply basic skills in programme management and operations within an ECCD centre and use leadership skills to advocate for quality education in ECCD centre; and
• exhibit sound knowledge of both global and national early childhood education policies, practices  and regulations.

Entrance requirement
The programme proposes for the following entrance requirements:
An applicant aspiring to enrol in this programme should have a minimum academic qualification of class XII passed withminimum of 40% in English and Dzongkha. The applicant must be employed in one of the ECCD centres and should have aminimum2 years work experience in an ECCD centre at the time of seeking enrolment.The applicant will be merit ranked using the following ability rating points:

General Aims

• Equip educational leaders and school administrators with effective administration and management skills in the delivery of       quality education to children and overall functioning of schools.

Objectives 

• Examine the different theories of educational leadership and administration and thereby apply this knowledge to initiate positive changes and develop the overall school system.
• Critically study Principal’s role of supervision in the delivery of instructional programme within the educational system for the development of human resources and professional development process in enhancing the quality of education.
• Demonstrate an insight into different research methodologies and explore research issues to promote a culture of research to  substantiate and address the topical concerns and challenges facing the education system in Bhutan.
• Gather, analyse, and interpret data and knowledge through the application of relevant enquiry methods.
• Study the key theories and principles of learning and their implications for effective instructions in school in the delivery of  quality and wholesome education.
• Reflect critically on the relationship between theory and practice.
• Contribute to theoretical and professional innovation at personal and organizational levels.

Master of Education in Inclusive Education  (Full Time)

General Aims

The proposed M.Ed in Inclusive Education programme aims to:

• produce teachers and professionals with formal qualification in special and inclusive education who are equipped with sound knowledge and skills to teach and respond to students with special educational needs;
• develop awareness and skills in teachers and professionals to critically explore policy and practice in Special and Inclusive Education (SIE) within Bhutan and at the international level;
• produce teachers and professionals with deep understanding and appreciation of inclusive philosophy; and
• build on teachers’ and professionals’ prior knowledge and develop the skills necessary to support the needs of individuals experiencing a range of barriers to learning and participation.

Objectives

The specific objectives of this programme are to develop teachers and professionals:

• who demonstrate deep understanding of the knowledge of various types of disabilities and exhibit skills to respond to the educational needs of those children who are identified as having disability;
• with competency to critically explore policy and practice in special and inclusive education, nationally and internationally;
• with competency to identify and reduce barriers to individual student’s learning and development;
• with competency to foster educational environments that recognise difference, value diversity, foster high levels of student engagement and learning, challenge social injustice and inequity, and support collaborative relationships among students, parents/ caregivers, staff and professionals;
• who are equipped with skills and knowledge in instructional practice related to supporting students with learning difficulties and disabilities in inclusive classrooms;
• who understand and demonstrate knowledge of observation, documentation and assessment processes in inclusive classroom settings; and
• who understand the philosophy of inclusion, possess skills to identify children with special needs and those at a higher risk of experiencing barriers to learning and exclusion and to take care of their needs and make referrals where necessary.

Admission Criteria 

 

To be eligible for enrolment in this programme, the candidate should:

1. Hold a bachelor’s degree (BEd; BA; BSc) from a university or an institution recognized by RCSC;
2. Have scored a minimum of 50% in English Language Proficiency Test comprising of a written test and oral interview. The aim of the test will be to assess the candidate’s analytical ability and language proficiency so that the candidate can cope with the programmes demands on language and higher order thinking.
3. The English Language Proficiency Test and the oral interview will be conducted virtually.
