Ugyen Choden

Professional biography
 

Ugyen Choden is a Senior Lecturer at Paro College of Education. She started teaching in schools since 2007 as a language and Health and Physical Education teacher. She started her career as a lecturer from 2015 with a master’s degree in Physical Education from Lovely Professional University in Punjab, India. She teaches Health and Physical Education for both Diploma and B. Ed programmes. She is currently the Programme Leader for Diploma in Sports Coaching and Physical Education programme. In her teaching role she has been an active facilitator in training the national teacher to teach HPE across the country along with her active role as a curriculum developer.

 

Her research interests are in youth fitness, student attitude towards HPE, self-efficacy beliefs of HPE teachers and blended learning. She was involved in an International project on Blended Learning and plays active role in promoting blended learning in the Bhutanese schools.

Thinley Wangchuk

Professional biography

 

Thinley Wangchuk is a teacher educator. He started his career as a teacher in July 1995. Prior to joining the college, he served in Ugyen Dorji Higher Secondary School (1995 – 1997) and Gyelpozhing Higher Secondary School (1998 till February 1999) teaching Chemistry and Physics to the students. He joined Paro College of Education as a teacher educator in March 1999 and since then he has taught Science Education, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Education and professional modules namely Skills for Effective Teaching, Assessment and evaluation, and Teaching skills to the students. In addition to his teaching responsibilities in the college, he has worked as the Head of Department for ICT (2008 – 2011) during which he led his teacher educator colleagues in streamlining the ICT modules and professional development in the ICT department in collaboration with the professors from NIE, Singapore (2008-2011).  From 2012 to 2015, he served the college as the Head of the School (HoS) for Bachelor Studies for a period of three and half years during which he managed the B.Ed programme as desired. Currently, he works as the Programme Leader for B.Ed Primary Programme.

Thinley Phuntsho

Professional biography

 

Thinley Phuntsho, (Master in Computer Science) is a teacher educator. He started to teach in February 2009. And he is currently an ICT faculty of Paro College of Education under the Royal University of Bhutan. He has taught ICT electives module (ICT202, ICT203, ICT204, ICT408, ICT 410), ICT literacy, ICT in education, functional information technology, educational assessment and evaluation, skills for effective teaching and teaching strategy courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He has 11 years of experience in the teaching profession in tertiary education. He has participated as co-researchers in the research team in the college. Recently, he is engaged in developing the ICT modules for the new primary curriculum in the college. He has also written information technology literacy and ICT modules for the new Dzongkha primary program. As of now, he is a B.Ed. programme committee member in the program broad of examiners, PBE (2019). In his capacity, he has contributed to the development of the PgDE modules translation for the teaching skills. (2019).He has started the culture of the academic literary activities in the college for the professional growth of student’s learning. (2010-2017). He has also been worked as team member for Library Renewal Partnership(LRP) which is collaborated with Phoenix International Baccalaureate in Philippines and with RUB. Currently, he is also working as a core team member for Bhutan Professional Standard Teacher, BPST ICT-CST competency standards. (2019). He believes that the act of teaching requires passionate, fascinate and commitment towards learning new innovative ideas and skills which are required in the 21st century. As a teacher educator, his conviction in education, “every child realizes the currency, recency, relevancy, need of ICT integration in learning and teaching in the 21st Century”. Thus, he carries broadly interested in doing research in educational technologies, digital technologies, and assistive technologies.

Sonam Dorji W

Professional biography

Sonam Dorji W. is a teacher educator. He joined the teaching profession in 2001. After pursuing Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), he taught English and History at Damphu Higher Secondary School for two years (2002-2003). In the early 2004 he was appointed as a lecturer by the Ministry of Education. Since then he taught undergraduate and post graduate students, supervised undergraduate Action Research and Masters Dissertations. He was a Distance Education Programme (DEP) Coordinator and acting Dean of Research and Industrial Linkages at Samtse College of Education (2008-2012). As a DEP coordinator, he led and nurtured the B.Ed. Secondary and Primary programmes that emphasized on the professional development needs for the in-service teachers.  He secured grants/funds to support Distance Education learners through ICT support system. He initiated localization of Moodle in Dzongkha Language and strengthened the use of Moodle across all the modules. He is the member of Paro Town Committee member for Bhutan Centre for Media and Democracy. He is also the core team member of the Global Citizenship Education (GCED).

Sangay Dorji

Professional biography

Sangay Dorji completed a Bachelors Degree in Science from Delhi University in 2009. At present. Sangay is an Associate Lecturer at Paro College of Education, Royal University of Bhutan. He was recruited as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Physics at Sherubtse College in Jan 2011. At Sherubtes College, apart from teaching Physics modules, Sangay was actively involved in coordinating student wellbeing activities like leadership programs, life skill classes, mindfulness sessions, and positive disciplining. These initiatives had ultimately led to change in course of Sangay’s area of specialization from Physics to Counselling. Sangay also coordinated a student leadership program at Sherubtse College, the programe was developed by sherubtse college in collaboration with University of New Brunswick, Canada, in 2008. As a coordinator of the Sherubtse Student Leadership Program he visited UNB in the winter of 2012 during which he acquired a Diploma in University Teaching from the same University.

 

In 2013, Sangay acquired a scholarship from Australian Awards to pursue Masters in Counselling Degree in Australia.  Upon his return from Australia in 2016 initiated the established Sherubtse College Counselling Unit. After a year Sangay was transferred to Paro College of Education as a Associate Lecturer in Department of Counselling.  At Paro College, besides teaching counselling and Pyschology modules, Sangay initiated development of Paro College Counselling Unit, secured two minor grants from Australia Awards in 2017 and 2018, and secured a large grant from European Union in 2019. Through the large grant from EU Sangay is managing a project aimed towards establishing counselling and wellbeing unit at all the nine campues of RUB. Sangay’s professional moral is guided by the humanistic approach of innate goodness of every human being, and he derives his daily inspiration from the teachings of Lord Buddha. Sangay published a paper in International Journal in 2018, and currently he is working on writing a chapter each for two books housed by Routledge Publishing.

Rinchen Khandu

Professional biography

Rinchen Khandu, Associate Lecturer, is a teacher educator. He was born to a humble family in the remote village called Rinchen Zor, Norbugang Gewog under Pema Gatsel Dzongkhag.  After completing his secondary education from Sarpang Middle Secondary School, he joined the Institute for Language and Cultural Studies in Semtokha to pursue his higher education. He completed his BA in Language and Culture from the College of Language and Cultural Studies, Semtokha in 2008.

 

He then went on to pursue Post Graduate Diploma in Education from Paro College of Education and later served as a school teacher for two years in remote schools namely Rangtse and Sangbaykha Primary School in Haa District. In 2013, he joined Paro College of Education as an assistant lecturer. Currently, he teaches Dzongkha literature, teaching skills, Dzongkha of Communication, Teaching Strategy and research in the college. He has a deep personal interest in preserving and promoting Bhutan’s unique culture and heritage. He is also a passionate researcher in various fields including language, culture, Buddhism, flora and fauna to name a few.

Phuntsho Dorji

Professional biography

Phuntsho Dorji  is a teacher educator. He started his teaching journey in 1989. Since then he has taught in  the schools as well as in a training institute. He taught Economics and English in schools before he was transferred to Paro College of Education (the then Teacher Training College).

At the college, he taught several professional courses for students who enrolled in both Primary Teacher’s Certificate (PTC)  and Zhungkha Teacher’s Certificate (ZTC) programs until 2003. He also served as a PTC Course Leader from 2001 to 2002.

He has been teaching several professional modules in both B. Ed Primary and B. Ed Secondary programs since 2004. Starting 2004 he also served as a Head of Department (Professional Studies) for over six years.

 

Starting 2004 he has also been teaching a professional module (Curriculum Theory) in the Master of Education in Leadership and Management program. The following are the modules he has been teaching so far in different programs and different levels:

Pema Yangzom

Professional biography

 

Pema Yangzom is working as Assistant Lecturer, she has started working in Paro college of Education since August, 2017. She has completed her Bachelors Degree in Education (Hons) with Special Education Needs as major and Guidance and Counselling as Minor elective from SEGi University in Malaysia, May 2017. she is also a Dual award certificate recipient in the same discipline from Marjon University in the United Kingdom. Since she started her career, she has been an active member of M.Ed Inclusive Education program committee. She assisted the team in reviewing and developing new modules for the program. She has participated in few research led by the senior faculty members and assisted in data collection, analysis and literature review. She has Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education (2019) and Post Graduate Diploma in Higher Education (2020) from Samtse College of Education, Royal University of Bhutan. Aside from her teaching commitments, she has served as residential coordinator for ladies from August, 2017 to July 2019. She has participated in several stakeholder’s workshops and meetings hosted by Royal Education Council, Ministry of Education, UNICEF, Bhutan Foundation and Samtse College of Education especially in area of Inclusive Education and integration of Inclusive principles in Curriculums and other programs since 2017.

Khandu Dorji

Professional biography

An experienced teacher and education leader, Ms. Khandu Dorji has around 20 years of experience in direct hands-on teaching, development of curriculum, leadership of in-service professional development programs for teachers and direct teaching of future education leaders. Ms. Khandu possesses extensive knowledge in education and pedagogy, technical skills in teaching improvement, professional development and research.  Ms. Khandu worked as Research Officer with the Royal Council of Education, has developed in service professional development programs, written policy and procedures for the functioning of the centenary teacher institute, facilitated in-service professional development programs for the teachers and contributed in hosting conferences and research projects.  As a Teacher and later Vice Principal of Jigme Namgyal Lower Secondary School, Thimphu, she led and managed the overall school academic and co-curricular activities, curriculum implementation, monitoring and evaluation and established necessary support services for teachers at the school and district levels. She has also trained and facilitated numerous scouting training and leadership programs. As school counsellor she initiated programs and conducted youth leadership training, peer counsellors training and other life skills programs.  Ms. Khandu is currently a Lecturer with the College of Education, Paro, Royal University of Bhutan. She holds a Master of Education from the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, Canada and a Bachelor of Education from Samtse College of Education, Royal University of Bhutan. She also holds a Diploma in Counselling from the National council of Educational Research and Training, New Delhi. She is also a certified counsellor by the National Board of Counselling Certificate, USA (NBCC ) and Bhutan Board of Counsellor BBCC.
