Through the lens of Two Different Experiences

Bishnu Sharma:

Sometimes, life takes us through a miracle in which we get the opportunity to experience things that we have been yearning for. For me, life feels very different now, yet in a beautiful way. There was a time when I was just a student, sitting quietly in the classroom, listening to my teachers and trying to understand every lesson. I used to wait for the bell to ring, feel nervous during exams, and feel happy when I got good marks. My biggest responsibility back then was to complete my homework and make my teachers proud. I still remember some simple yet memorable moments clearly. For example, there were days when I did not understand a lesson, especially in subjects like mathematics. I would feel shy to ask questions. But when a teacher explained it again with patience, I felt so relieved and happy. I also remember laughing with my friends, sharing lunch, and helping each other before tests. Those moments made school life very special. Now, the coin has flipped on the other side. As a teacher, I see the classroom from a completely different side. I stand in front of students who remind me of my younger self. Some of them are confident, while others are shy, just like I used to be. When I see a student struggling to understand something, I try my best to explain it in a simple way, because I know exactly how it feels to be confused. For example, there was a time I was teaching a English lesson,  I noticed a student sitting quietly without participating. Instead of ignoring, I went closer and asked if they needed help. Slowly, the student started to respond. Later, when that same student answered a question correctly, the smile on her face made my day as it reminded me of my own small victories as a student.

I knew that, being a teacher is not always easy. There are times when students do not listen, or when lessons do not go as planned. But even in those moments, there is something meaningful. Every day is a chance to learn, not just for the students, but for me as well. Now, when I look back, I realize how important my teachers were in shaping me. Now, I carry that same responsibility. I always try to be kind, patient, and understanding, because I know that even a small word of encouragement can make a big difference in a student’s life.

The journey from being a student to becoming a teacher has changed me in many ways. It is different, full of responsibilities, and sometimes challenging. But at the same time, it is truly beautiful. Every day in the classroom reminds me of where I came from and gives me hope for the future I am helping to build.
