Karma Nidup

Professional biography

Karma Nidup is a teacher and counsellor educator. He started his teaching career in March 1995 after completing BA Honours from Sherubtse College in Kanglung, Eastern Bhutan. He taught for more than three years in different schools and was transferred to Paro College of Education in August 1998. He completed his Master of Education in Educational Foundations and Diploma in University Teaching from the University of New Brunswick (UNB, Fredericton, Canada) in 2002. Since then he has actively participated in developing courses for the colleges of education at Paro and Samtse respectively. He was the Course Leader of Primary Teaching Certificate (PTC) and Zhungkhag Teaching Certificate (ZTC) from 1st June 2002 – 30th December, 2003 and as the Head of the Professional Studies Department (HoD) from May 2008 – December 2013.

 

He has conducted several career education and counselling workshops for the teachers during the summer and winter recess upon the invitation of the Ministry of Education. He was involved in writing and launching the curriculum for the Post Graduate Diploma in Contemplative Counselling Psychology (PGDCCP) for Samtse College of Education. He helped conduct retreats and have offered courses along with the Professors from Naropa University in the US. From 2004 – 2017, he has facilitated several teaching pedagogy workshops for the faculties of colleges under the auspices of the Royal University of Bhutan (RUB). He was conferred the National Certified Counselor (NCC-S) on September 28, 2017 by the Bhutan Board for Certified Counselors for meeting the standards of professional counseling. He is currently the working committee member of the Bhutan Board for Certified Counselors based in Thimphu. The Center for Credentialing & Education verifies that he is qualified to teach basic mental health skills and concepts and to teach Mental Health Facilitator (MHF) trainers, and therefore he is recognized as a Master Trainer for the Mental Health Facilitator Program on July 27, 2017 with a registry number 222 recorded at the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC USA). He has a great enthusiasm for Buddhist contemplative education and its enlightening practices.
