Kinzang Lhendup joined teaching in 1991 after completing his B.Ed from the erstwhile National Institute of Education, Samtse, Bhutan. He specialized in secondary English and Geography. He was posted in Ngangla Junior High School, and in less than six months he was recognized for his potential for leadership and was appointed as the officiating headmaster of the school. He served as the head of three different schools till June 1995 when he was summoned by the Education Ministry to take up the task of coordinating and leading English section of the Curriculum and Professional Support Service Division in the Ministry. It was during that time, in mid-nineties when he identified reading as a niche area for the Education Ministry to work on in order to enhance academic competence of students across the country. Consequently, Supplementary Reading Programme, his own brain-child was conceived and introduced, which is thriving to this day.

His keen interest in helping students’ readings skills and literature encouraged him to pursue masters in Library and Information Studies from Dalhousie University in Canada. Kinzang’s strong belief in access to literature as the key to reading development encouraged him to pioneer in automating the libraries in the constituent colleges under the Royal University of Bhutan. He has provided his know-how in the automation of Sherubtse’ College’s library, and did a detailed planning of the existing PCE’s library automation. After serving in the college library for 10 plus years he decided to switch back to teaching, and so pursued his second masters’ degree in Contemplative Education from Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado, US. Today, Kinzang is experimenting with contemplation, mindful meditation, Buddhist inspired pedagogies in managing classrooms, motivating students.

Kinley Dorji, PhD, is a teacher educator and a linguist. He started his teaching career as a teacher educator in 2003 at the Paro College of Education. Since then, he has been teaching both undergraduate and post graduate courses at the college. His subjects of specialization include English Education, Applied Linguistics, Research and other professional subjects related to teacher education. He has also developed training courses in English education and research and trained school teachers in the area of English education and research. Besides teaching educational research method modules in the post graduate courses, he has also supervised M.Ed. thesis for the school leaders in Bhutan.  He served as a member of the Higher Degree Research Committee of the Royal University of Bhutan (2013-2015), and also as an external examiner to the English Degree programme at the Sherabtse College (2015-2017). He has conducted extensive research on Dzongkha, Dzongkha tones and segments, borrowing in Dzongkha, Sociolinguistics of Dzongkha, among others. His research in education includes gender differences in learning English, Academic writing, and language pedagogy. At present, he is a member of the National Dzongkha Language Expert Committee and an editor to the Asian Scholars Network – Journal of Qualitative Social Sciences’ (based in Bangladesh).

Sherub Tshomo, has a Master’s degree in Psychology and has been teaching Psychology related modules at Paro College of Education since 2008. She can be best described as someone who is (sometimes a little too) passionate about her job. She believes in focusing on the process of learning rather than on the end product and as such prioritizes her effort in providing individualized opportunity and being accessible to each student in their learning journey. Furthermore, she is an ardent supporter of the idea “children must be taught how to think, not what to think” and she will go the extra mile to materialize this idea.

Since her joining, she has written, reviewed and taught both undergraduate and graduate modules. Besides this, she has also been the Project manager for UNFPA funded project “Life Skills Based Sexuality Education” for three years. During her managerial role, she has initiated and conducted numerous sexuality education work-shops and two international seminars for students, lecturers, administrators of the RUB and other stakeholders.

At research front, she has varied research interests, however; her primary interests lie in three different fields: 1) how people learn, 2) how people become who they are and 3) human sexuality.

Beyond her teaching job, she is a passionate learner, who enjoys discovering, debating and constructing new ideas. One of her biggest fear in her profession is not being memorable!!

Karma Chimi Wangchuk is a teacher educator. He started to teach in his current position since September 2008. Prior to this, he worked as a school teacher from July 2002 to August 2008 and taught subjects like English, History and Social Studies in grades III to VIII. He has a Master of Education from Edith Cowan University, Perth, Australia. He is one of the teacher educators with early childhood education qualification in the country in the recent times.

Since 2008 he was involved in the development of early childhood education sector in Bhutan. He co-developed a training programme with Mr. Karma Galey from ECCD and SEN Division and trained 30 Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) facilitators in Punakha in 2009. This was the first professional development in early childhood education in Bhutan. From 2008 till 2011, he was a team member who drafted the National Policy on Early Childhood Care and Development in Bhutan. Using this policy the Ministry of Education established many ECCD centres in the country. He is one of the certified trainers for the Basic Training of ECCD Facilitators, Integration of ECCD Approaches for Pre-Primary Teachers based on Step by Step Approach and ECCD Parenting Education Programme. As the national team leader, he led and successfully completed the first the nation-wide situation study to gauge the human capacity development needs for early childhood care and development in Bhutan funded by Open Society Foundation, UK from 2011 to 2012. He also developed three modules on the training of caregivers working in Crèches in Bhutan in 2017-18 for the Nation Commission for Women and Children, Bhutan and also trained two cohorts of caregivers.

Under his leadership that the College of Education developed the Diploma in ECCD programme in 2015 and established the Rinpung ECCD centre which serves as a model ECCD centre in the country. He has also developed modules for Bachelor and Diploma programmes.
