Karma Jurme joined the Paro College of Education (PCE) faculty in December 2014 after almost eight years of service to Samtse College of Education (SCE). At SCE, he was engaged in many unique academic programmes that had huge impact on teacher education process; he also served as the Programme Leader for B. Ed Primary (Pre & In-service) programme; served as Chair for B. Ed Secondary Programme Board of Examiners (PBE) and member of Senior Management Team (SMT) of the college. Karma was also a member of research committee for SCE, from 2010 to 2014. Since then he has developed courses, taught undergraduate and postgraduate students, trained school and university teachers. He also served as a lead in the Task Force Members in drafting and writing Early Learning and Development Standards (ELDS) for children age 36 – 72 months.
Before being nominated to join SCE faculty by Royal Civil Service Commission (RCSC), he served as a teacher, Assistant Headmaster and Vice Principal at Damthang Lower Secondary School, Haa. He started his teaching career in July 2002.
Outside of his professional career of academia, he is actively involved in variety of social services to humanity. He and his team successfully sought donation of thousands of books from the United States of America for libraries of schools and colleges in Bhutan. The books were then distributed to schools in four Dzongkhags (Trashigang, Trashiyangtse, Pemagatsel and Samdruojongkhar) in the East and in some schools in the Paro valley. He is also a member and volunteer to the Disabled Persons’ Association of Bhutan (DPAB), which is the registered Civil Society Origination (CSO) under the patronage of HRH Prince Namgyal Wangchuk.
