General Aims
The Diploma in ECCD aims to address the need to prepare knowledgeable, skilled and competent ECCD facilitators capable of providing care, early stimulation and learning opportunities in different ECCD programme and services in the country. Specifically, the programme will address the need for qualified and professionally trained facilitators in the ECCD sector.
Objectives
The specific objectives of this programme are to prepare ECCD facilitators who will be able to:
- demonstrate a sound understanding of child development while working with young children;
- make an informed decision of their daily practices using knowledge of contemporary early childhood theories;
- organize developmentally and culturally relevant learning environments in the ECCD centre;
- organize relevant learning activities for children informed by knowledge of child development, strengths and interests of the , and the social cultural context they live in;
- observe and document children’s learning regularly and make informed curriculum decisions;
- develop responsive and reciprocal relationships with children, families and communities they work with; Page 3 of 156
- respect and value local funds of knowledge when working with families and communities;
- establish mutually beneficial relationship with families and communities;
- exhibit knowledge of health care, safety principles, nutritional and physical needs of young children;
- apply appropriate practices to ensure that a child is healthy, nourished and protected;
- advocate the benefits of play in the holistic development of a child;
- plan appropriate play activities for children;
- use different teaching methods and strategies to support children achieve learning goals in Bhutan
- Early Learning and Development Standards;
- possess knowledge about different kinds of disabilities and liaise with relevant agencies to support children with disabilities;
- apply basic skills in programme management and operations within an ECCD centre and use leadership skills to advocate for quality education in ECCD centre; and
- exhibit sound knowledge of both global and national early childhood education policies, practices and regulations.

Admission Criteria
Entrance requirement
The programme proposes for the following entrance requirements:
An applicant aspiring to enrol in this programme should have a minimum academic qualification of class XII passed withminimum of 40% in English and Dzongkha. The applicant must be employed in one of the ECCD centres and should have aminimum2 years work experience in an ECCD centre at the time of seeking enrolment.The applicant will be merit ranked using the following ability rating points:
