1975
Established as the Pre-School Care Training Centre on 4 th November.
1976
The first batch of Pre-School teachers graduated in December and staff further strengthened.
1985
A common Primary Teacher certificate Curriculum with NIE adopted in June.
1986
First PTC common examination conducted by the Bhutan Board of Examination.
1987
Mr. Phub Rinchen took over as the Principal of the college and Demonstration School.
1988
TTC moved into new Rimpung complex built by UNICEF assistance.
1989
Mr. Gopi Chettri took over as the third Principal of TTC and Demonstration School in February.
1991
Mr. Phub Rinchen returned as the first Director of TTC and Demonstration School in May
1992
Mr. Dorjee Tshering took the office as the 2nd Director of TTC in September
1993
Zhungkha Teacher Certificate (ZTC) course launched in Feb.
1994
The first batch of Zhungkha Teachers graduated in July.
1994
Foundation stone for the Academic complex laid jointly by Dasho T.J. Rixin, the Secretary, Ministry of Health and the Resident Co-ordinator, Helvetas, Bhutan on 11 March.
1996
New dinning hall and kitchen complex completed and taken over in September.
1997
Mr. Wangchuk Rabten took over as the 3rd Director on 29th July.
1998
Expansion of TTC intake capacity finalized for the 8th Five Year Plan 3.
1998
Four new staff quarters handed over to TTC by Helvetas in February and the academic buildings in July.
1999
New academic complex handed over in July. Intake capacity increased from 220 to 445, B.Ed (P) – Dzongkha & English started from August. Inaugurated the New campus by HM Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuk on 18th November. First Joint Convocation held on 25 th December.
2000
Dr. Jagar Dorji took over as the 4th Director on 24 th March.
July 2000
TTC upgraded to the National Institute of Education following amalgamation with CAPSD.
Sept. 2001
Internet and computer education course for trainee teachers inaugurated by Her Majesty the Queen Ashi Sangey Choedon Wangchuk.
Jan. 2001
CAPSD completed shifting from Education Headquarters, Thimphu to NIE, Paro.
Mar, 2001
Agriculture as compulsory course for First Year Trainees started.
Mar 8, 2001
International Women’s Day celebrated at NIE, Paro.
May, 2001
The Centre for Educational Research and Development (CERD) inaugurated with Mr. T.S. Powdyel as its Director.
Dec. 2001
NIE hosted the 5th Annual Education Conference from 24 – 28 December.
Jan 2003
First cohort distance M.Ed, Dip.Ed and DE Dzongkha B.Ed courses launched.
Nov 2003
His Majesty, the King granted an audience to the Institute faculty and students and gave a talk on “the state of the nation on the verge of a war.”
Dec. 2003
PTC and ZTC courses phased out.
Sept. 2004
Institute handed over to RUB by Ministry of Education
Feb 2005
Ms Namgay Om took over as the fifth Director of the Institute.
Dec 2005
Faculty and IT building completed and taken over, Foundation stones laid for a new Auditorium and a Gymnasium.

First Cohort of M.Ed. and Dip. Ed. Students graduate
Jan 2007
Second Cohort of M.Ed and Dip.Ed. Students graduate.
