Accreditation in Paro College of Education
A team of five officials from Bhutan Accreditation Council, Department of Adult and Higher Education, Ministry of Education, was on a 4-day (22nd – 25th May, 2017) site visit to Paro College of Education for accreditation of the College.
Talking to the College Management Team, the Team Leader, Dr. Singay Namgyel explained that accreditation is one of the mechanisms to ensure that minimum standard is met by all the institutions in Bhutan. He also pointed out that such an activity provides assurance of quality of institutions to the government and other stakeholders, and raise institutional standards besides providing accreditation information to students seeking territory education opportunities.
The accreditation of colleges is based on six key components: curricular elements, research, innovative practices and institutional linkages, infrastructure and learning resources, student services, and internal quality assurance and enhancement system.
It is mandatory for all the colleges in Bhutan to be accreditated. So far only four colleges under the Royal University of Bhutan have been accreditated, i.e. Royal Thimphu College (RTC), Gaedu College of Business Studies (GCBS), Samtse College of Education (SCE) and Paro College of Education (PCE).
