28th October, 2009:
His Excellency, Lyonpo Thakur S.
Powdyel, the Minister of Education,
honored the family of Paro College
of Education with his presence on
the 28th of October
(Friday). His Excellency was
accompanied by some officials from
the Ministry of Education. Lyonpo
addressed the gathering in the
college gymnasium at 2:30 pm. His
Excellency reminded student teachers
of the big responsibility that falls
on our shoulders as teachers in the
near future. In his talk, Lyonpo
also shared his views about
“reclaiming the fame of our noble
profession” i.e. teaching and the
‘triangle noble” which talk about
the three main things that we have
to bear in mind when taking up the
teaching profession.
Later on the student teachers were
given the opportunity to ask
questions or any queries that we
had. Some student teachers asked
questions that ranged from the much
talked about issue of ‘quality of
education’ to rise of payment for
teachers. Lyonpo was kind enough to
answer the questions and queries
with utmost patience.
Towards the end, Lyonpo said how
pleased he was to have been able to
have such a talk with us, the family
of PCE and that he regretted it
wasn’t in smaller groups. I must say
that this feeling was mutual, for
the student teachers too felt the
same way. The student teachers felt
lucky to have been visited by Lyonpo,
and at the same time wished they
were able to have interaction at an
individual level. When Lyonpo bid
farewell to us, he did so with the
promise to ‘try and meet with the
family of PCE” as and when he can.
So, until his next visit, we
continue our pursuit of excellence
in the ‘making and becoming of
teachers
