Choeshed Layrim in PCE, 2010

A Choeshed Layrim in Paro College of  Education was organized for 8 days from 6th April to 13th April, 2010. It was presided over by the venerable Yangpai Lopen of the Zhung Dratshang.  The first year trainees, PGDE along with the college director, faculty and staff attended the first gathering on the first two days followed by the second year trainees on the next two days and then by the final year trainees. The last two days were attended by the whole college, both student teachers and faculty, and concluded with a Jitshen Demei Wang from his venerable Yangpai Lopen and a collaborative Tshokor.

During the Choeshed layrim, the Yangpai Lopen addressed the importance of mind and mindfulness, the dignity of meditation, the four noble truths, commitment towards the people and other sentient beings in this world. His venerable even mentioned that we have to understand the four noble truths and its offerings as a bell of mindfulness.

The gathering was more illuminated on the 8th of April with the presence of the Principal of Semtokha Sheydra, Khenpo Norbu Gyeltshen. His discourse made the devotees understand the difficulties in obtaining the precious human life, its impermanence, the cause and effect of our conduct.

Rinzin Wangmo, one of the student teachers, said that she felt very contented to receive such a religious talk from the venerable Lopens. “Though life is filled with sufferings, it is our responsibility to make it meaningful within the short period by following the basic principles of Buddhism and the teachings of His eminence,” said Tara Devi, another student teacher.

Every morning, when we wake up, we have 24 brand new hours to live. What a precious gift! We have the capacity to live those 24 hours in a way that will bring peace, joy and happiness to ourselves and to others by perfecting our state of body, speech and mind. In other words, by understanding and practising the Bodhisattva.

We extend our inexpressible and immeasurable gratitude to the venerable Yangpai Lopen for his passionate teachings, inspiration and for being the source of our knowledge. We thoroughly admire his true patriotism, energy, enthusiasm and his unwavering contribution to the nation.
