Following the badminton finals on 10th
May, the centenary gymnasium came
alive again as animated supporters
cheered for their basketball teams
on 11th May. The
inter-class basketball finals of
both men and women were played after
an entertaining exhibition match
between the teams of lecturers. The
Director’s participation in the game
added charm and the depth to the
very motto of the HPE Department--to
promote GNH through individual
fitness.
In the first match the second year
Primary Curriculum girls and the
third year Bio-Chemistry girls met.
The game hit the excitement cord as
the young women amused and
entertained the college spectators
with their enthusiastic spirits.
After a thorough struggle of throws,
dribbles and barging, the game went
in favour of the Bio-Chemistry
girls. The next match saw the fight
of the titans. The third year
Bio-Chemistry boys and the third
year Math-Physics boys jumped into
action-- perspiring and pouncing,
running and rummaging, bumping and
bellowing-- all for the coveted
prize. The scores were leveled at
the end of the forth quarter. The
tie had to be unleashed within ten
minutes of the extra playtime. But
with the rain of scores executed by
the Bio-Chemistry, they scooped up
the championship title.
A total of fifty teams participated
in this league cum knockout match.
The most encouraging fact was that a
total of 24 women’s teams
participated. Two teams from the
staff joined the competition.
“The rationale behind organizing the
competition is to bring the family
of PCE together, maintain physical
fitness, encourage participation,
and build a team spirit and to
update the rules and regulations of
the game,” said Mr. Bijoy Kumar,
Head of HPE Department.
To maintain balance between world
and traditional sports, a khuru
(dart-game) competition was
organized by the Tarayana
Club on 15th and 16th
of May. A total of sixty two teams
(39 Men’s and 23 Women’s)
participated. It was a big social
event that brought all the students
and the faculty together to enjoy a
great spirit of festivity and
togetherness.
In the men’s category the
non-teaching staff A, and in the
women’s the third year
English/History girls bagged the
championship titles. Prizes for the
highest hit, double hit and the most
bull’s eye hits were awarded. The
organizers plan to conduct similar
competitions in the future to
promote the traditional sports.
